Dear Eastridge Friends,

March 26, 2008

Dear Eastridge Friends,

These are exciting times for our church! We are in the midst of a Capital Stewardship Campaign to support the completion of our Phase II vision.

Your Campaign Committee wants you to be fully informed about a wide variety of possibilities for making important capital gifts to the campaign. This is why the Advance Commitments Committee is hosting a couple of Capital Gifts Information Meetings to stimulate your thinking about a gift to our Capital Campaign that will represent your fullest capability. This is why I ask you to do two things:

1. Please read the booklet entitled “A Guide to Capital Gifts”. Copies are available in the Welcome Center. It is full of information about a wide variety of gifting methods – other than cash gifts – that you may find very interesting. One or more of these options may hold some possibilities for your own gift to the Capital Campaign.

2. Plan to meet with Rev. Bevins, and a member of the Advanced Commitments Committee, on Sunday, April 6th at 9:30 or 11:00 am for a Capital Gifts Information Meeting to be held in room L10 (Forum classroom). Rex Bevins has helped many persons make gifts that benefited the giver as well as the church. He knows how to be helpful to members who want to know how to make a gift that will maximize their giving capability. You can put your complete trust in his guidance.

Please be assured; at these meetings there will be no request for gifts or pledges. The whole purpose is to make this resource available to you to help you think about your possible gift to the Capital Campaign. I look forward to seeing you at the meeting you select. In addition, Rex Bevins is willing to meet with you privately, in your home or at the church, to discuss the possibilities of making a gift to the campaign. If a private meeting would be helpful, you may call the church office at 488-7844 to schedule a time.

Sincerely,

Jim Crelin

Dear Eastridge Family,

Paul writes, “Do you not know that in a race the runners all compete, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win it. … So I do not run aimlessly… so that after proclaiming to others I myself should not be disqualified.”
-1 Corinthians 9:24, 26-27

This past summer our son, Benjamin, joined the Southwest High School cross country team. I was pleased to see many other young people who Cathy and I knew running cross country for various Lincoln high school teams. The races are fun to watch and they have a goal: to finish the race. One afternoon a young lady got a cramp, but she fought through it, walking at times, but did all she could to finish the race. During another race a young man lost his shoe, that didn’t stop him, he ran with only one and finished the race. During one of the final races of the season, a freshman broke his foot, but he continued and finished the race. What determination! They were all striving to win. In every race one runner did win.

As I watched these races, however, I saw more than one winner for I felt that every runner who gave his or her all and finished the race was also a winner. The same principle can be seen in the living of life. There are many things we begin, but what is most important is what we finish.

Together as a church family we agreed to begin a project to bring the ministry and facilities of Eastridge into the 21st Century. I wish it were possible for me to visit each family of our church and share how the vision for our church which we began back in 2003 has progressively become a reality. Our consultants, Living Stones Associates, told us that our vision would take approximately ten years to complete. Today we’re on schedule; we have accomplished a little more than half of what we set out to do, with incredible results. As we look to the days ahead, may God provide us the determination to finish what we started.

“Growing Something New: Completing What We Started” is the theme chosen for our Phase II capital campaign. God’s faithful disciples in every age were constantly giving of themselves so that future generations might experience the power of an intimate relationship with God. I am convinced that our campaign reflects the essence and spirit of who we are as God’s people. We can finish what we started. This phase II campaign seeks to:

Extend our Mission: Eastridge Presbyterian has always been known as a mission-oriented church. Our phase I campaign has heightened our ability to do and support missions. The first $160,000 in this Phase II campaign will be a tithe to support our new mission home. Ministry and Missions will always be a priority.

Eliminate our Debt: We are called to be good stewards. We need to use what God has given wisely. We must avoid the interest that comes with debt. So we need to pay down our debt before moving on with our vision.

Enhance our Facilities: Our vision includes new parking lot lighting, more parking spaces, removal of asbestos and classroom remodeling, renovated and new bathrooms, new administrative offices, new lower level youth activities area/conference room, new outdoor activity area and fenced grass play area.

Let us covenant together to know and do the will of God that we who have been so blessed might always be a blessing to others. We truly are building a lasting legacy for those who come after us. Let us prayerfully consider the call that God has given us to give to the future ministry of Eastridge Presbyterian Church and to do it cheerfully because it creates joy in our souls.

In God’s Love,

Pastor Jim
