Minutes for the September 6, 2007 Meeting
Members present on September 6, 207: Marcia Arthur, J.P. Carlson, Susan Taylor
Devotion given by Susan Taylor: “Pass the Salt Please” from Powerful Prayer for your Family by David & Heather Kopp.
Minutes approved as corrected. Whitstone is spelled Whetstone.
I. Reports
A. Christian Education: Susan gave us a written report.
B. Associate Pastor’s report:
1. Discussed where money from Alpha will be coming from. The money for the retreat will be partially paid by the attendees and the rest of the money will be asked for from the Memorial and Endowment fund. The manuals will be paid for by the Christian Education fund.
2. J.P. will be teaching John 1st, 2nd and 3rd for the Adult Bible Study. He purchased 2 commentaries for the letters of John. These can be reimbursed by the Christian Education account. The series should be finished by Thanksgiving. Then programs regarding Advent will be presented.
3. Books have been ordered for one of the small group Bible Studies. There will be a charge for the books and then the Christian Education fund will pay the rest. This will be a study on the book of ACTS.
C. Library: Judith needs to do more library work but just hasn’t had enough time.
D. Confirmation: There are 14 in the class. They have two teachers: Anna will be in charge with Chris Boden and Greg Tubach as teachers. Male Mentors are needed.
E. Midweek Manna: Two weeks completed and it going very well. Need someone to help with Children’s classes doing crafts, etc. Crafts depict what life was like in Bible times. There are babysitters and babysitting will begin at 5 p.m.
F. Nursery: All the babysitters have been hired.
G. Web Page: Easier to get things onto the webpage. Just give information to Theresa and she will be able to put it on the website for you.
H. Cradle Roll: Judy is keeping up with the cradle roll.
I. E-mail Devotion recruiter: Writers for the devotions are completed.
II. Business:
A. Summer Sunday school –Finished last week.
B. Teachers for School year 07-08. A list of the Sunday School teachers was given to the committee.
C. Turkey Hunt: Kim Braaten
D. Advent Devotional: Looking for someone with skills to work on this. It may be possible for Theresa to put the devotional booklet together. People will email their devotionals to her.
E. Angel Tree: Christian Education will be doing the Angel tree at Christmas again this year. The Confirmands will be asked to help. It was suggested to include the refugee families in on the Angel tree.
F. Gathering Place: Michele Boden is the new coordinator. J.P. will help her to get started. Christian Education will be asked to pick a time to serve.
G. Rally Day: Sue Anne Philson is in charge and everything is ready to go.
H. Third Grade Bibles: Susan has the Bibles and the names. Now the labels need to be made and placed in each Bible.
I. Christmas Program: Kim Shirk is working on writing the Christmas Program.
J. Totes: All the totes are done and moved. Three people were able to help.
K. Oct. Sabbath: Children’s Sabbath. It was decided to make light bulbs and have the children write their names on it with a Bible verse or things they enjoy. Other people in the congregation take one of these light bulbs and pray for that child as a way of connecting children to other people in the congregation.
L. Back pack project: 242 pounds of food was collected.
J.P. Carlson closed us in prayer. The next Meeting will be October 4, 2007
