Description of Position

TITLE:  Hymn Leader

PURPOSE: To support the congregation by leading hymns and aid in the music ministry of the church.

 

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Experience and Education

  • Prior Choral singing or solo singing experience

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

  • Proficient in hymn singing
  • Excellent sight-reading skills
  • Basic keyboard skills

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide excellent leadership and vocal support to the congregation
  • Required to attend scheduled Sunday services
  • Required to get hymn selection each week
  • Required to attend scheduled services
  • Must learn the hymns selections and be prepared to lead the congregation in worship
  • Support the congregation musically through hymn leading
  • Express the love of God through music and teach the importance of music in worship
  • Maintain regular communication with Director of Music and/or Pastors
  • Demonstrate professionalism and accountability
  • Maintain high degree of integrity and confidentiality regarding information concerning staff or church members
  • Follow established organizational policies and procedures
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Director of Music or Head of Staff
  • This position may be held by one or more individuals

 

EMPLOYMENT YEAR/COMPENSATION:

  • Position is year around.
  • Hymn leaders will be present at the 8:00 and 9:30 am worship services.
  • Hymn leaders are not required to the present at the 8:00 am service when the Chancel Choir is scheduled
  • The stipend is based on the number of services attended. $55 will be paid to each individual for leading hymns at both 8:00 and 9:30 am on the same Sunday. If the individual leads only at 9:30 am, the stipend will be $30.

Accountable to the Director of Music and Head of Staff
